There's Something New in Newport

Yaquina Bay's iconic arched bridge with its touches of Gothic architecture marks the entrance to Newport's bay, home to fishing vessels, tour boats and coming May 18-31, a fleet of tall ships.  But it's been in place since 1936 so that's not new. The bay front boardwalk, housing fish processing facilities on one side and tourist shops on the other, including the well-known Mo's Seafood restaurants, is aging in place and showing the wear and tear of coastal life, so that's not new either.

There is one new bright spot on the boardwalk that will delight young and old alike. 2 Kids Candy Store opened May 18 at 640 S.W. Bay Boulevard to a busy flow of curious patrons. Their smiles communicated they had found a wonderful source of edible delights. The owners, Steve and Carolyn Tunison, built the highly acclaimed The Buzz on Broadway candy store in Seaside, Oregon. They cultivated the best of the best in candy products such as their 36 flavors of fresh fudge and 100 flavors of puffy, delicious taffy. They sold The Buzz at the end of 2015 thinking to retire. That lasted about two weeks before ideas began to percolate for another business opportunity. They found it in an aging, dingy candy store in Newport that just begged for their gifted deliverance from obscurity and ubiquitous decline.

Jelly Belly scoops
2 Kids Candy Store is a sparkling and bright brand new establishment filled to the ceiling with every imaginable candy, 80 flavors of taffy, elegant egg-shaped truffles, premier chocolates and fudge and a wall of Jelly Belly scoops, mostly self-service so customers can build a basket of their own types and amounts. The general manager, Jen, is knowledgeable and happy to help direct customers to whatever their hearts desire. She runs the day-to-day operation with the help of several staffers and enjoys the public contact. Who wouldn't like working all day in a sweets shop?!

Just a sample of the taffy selection
The owners will use their

When you're cruising the coast for something new to explore, get down to the 2 Kids Candy Store and have yourself a blast. Show the kids your favorite candy from "back in the day" or introduce the grandkids to "old fashioned" treats. Discover the unique flavor of chili mango taffy. It's got an after burn you'll love. No one will be disappointed. You will all be kids in a candy store!
